My Home

The kitchen in spring is something beautiful. I enjoy watching the flowers dancing in the breeze as I sit, perched at the window. I find that a person I always love watching in the kitchen is mom, who I love with all my being. She sings and dances with her eyes sparkling. I love the way she bakes bread and cakes, her hands like spiders spinning webs, delicate and magical.

The kitchen is a noisy boisterous wonderful place to be- full of jokes, laughter, chatter, debates, play and rhythm. Finally, the kitchen truly is the heart of our home.

My sister Ailbhe is always concocting crazy, colourful crafts. Her most recent creative idea required everyone in the family to paint a picture with acrylics. Each illustration could be as abstract as we wished. I painted a Jackson Pollock-esque picture using hot pink and green. I chose the pink as it is a vibrant and exciting colour, a little bit like me. Ailbhe cut the paintings into long strips and she jumbled them up to create a colourful collage. This collage is symbolic of my family because each painting is different from the others yet they fit together harmoniously, just like us.
